Who we are
Lewes Climate Concern is a year-long campaign started by Lewes people with the aim of helping everyone to realise that climate change is real and that all of us can do something about it. It's a huge challenge - and a huge opportunity. We have the active support of our MP, Norman Baker, and our three local Councils, as well as many local organisations.
What we're doing
Al Gore’s film
An Inconvenient Truth
Climate Change -
Britain Under Threat
and the BBC/David Attenborough programme
Climate Change - Britain under Threat are clear and powerful explanations of what is at stake. Our aim is to give as many Lewes people as possible the opportunity of seeing one or both of these films. We invite every group we can think of - churches, schools and clubs, for a start - to work with us. We shall put on free public film shows and distribute on loan DVDs & videos for people to show to friends at home.
Why we’re doing it
There is now a huge body of scientific evidence that within the next few decades there will be an accelerating change in our climate that will cause irreversible damage to the planet. For us in our unique, historic and beautiful town this will mean:

David Gray - Southeast England will become warmer, possibly by up to 5°C by the 2080s (5°C rise in temperature is more than the difference between now and the last Ice Age).
- Summers will be much hotter and drier and winters will be much warmer and wetter, and floods will be bigger and more frequent.
The decisions we take today, the policies governments pursue, will have a profound influence on whether the scientists' predictions become stark reality for the next generation.
Where we go from here
You too can be part of this campaign (can you think of anything more important right now?).
